The Chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee has a limited role to play in local politics—it’s about identifying, vetting, and supporting Republican candidates. My priorities support this basic function of the Chair:
Promoting Honesty and Integrity in Local Government: Warren County has the tragic distinction as being the backdrop of one of the largest corruption scandals in Virginia history. The elements are in place to repeat it again: good ol’ boy electioneering and bullying, off-the-record conversations, capture by special interests, and an alarming indifference to and detachment from the realities of everyday citizens by some of our elected leaders. (Not all). The Republican Party in Warren County needs to be a bulwark against both the appearance of corruption and actual corruption. The Committee makes recommendations to the County’s citizens about who is best to serve us in local government. We need honest, conservative people identifying, vetting, and supporting honest, conservative candidates.
Increasing Republican Voter Turnout. I plan on re-engaging former WCRC members, expanding outreach efforts, and growing active participation within the Committee. My ideas on this stem from experience driving voter turnout and participation campaigns in other settings.
Election Integrity. I propose a review of voter rolls to ensure accuracy and engaging in a discussion on the verification of provisional, absentee, and mail-in ballots. I am interested in exploring hand-counting of ballots and limiting reliance on voting machines. We need to be sure that Warren County is not a potential home for the corruption of the vote. This matters for local, state, and national races.
Promoting Conservative Governance. I support using WCRC meetings to encourage discussion of local policy issues and to promote accountability to conservative principles, including and especially limited government, low taxes, and protection of civil liberties. Nothing demoralizes Republican voters like Republicans who govern like Democrats. How do our Republican elected officials’ actions square with our Republican values? If they can’t answer that, they’re not up for the job.
